Speaker of Parliament Anita AmongĀ  has hosted the victorious Kitara FC team this afternoon, celebrating their recent triumph in the Uganda Stanbic Cup and stressing the importance of discipline.

The Hoima-based club made history last week by defeating NEC to secure their first-ever Uganda Stanbic Cup title in the 50th edition of the competition. Kitara FC, led by President Deo Kasozi, proudly presented the trophy to Speaker Among in her boardroom today.

Speaker Among praised the team for their significant achievement and highlighted the critical role of discipline in their success.

"I want to congratulate you for winning the Uganda Stanbic Cup. This comes with discipline because if you're not disciplined, then you can't make it as a player," she remarked.

Reaffirming Parliament's dedication to supporting sports, particularly in the area of stadium construction, Among referenced the recent approval of a Shs152 billion supplementary budget for the construction of Hoima Stadium, set to be ready ahead of the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

She encouraged Kitara FC to back the stadium construction, proposing that the team could use one of the training pitches as their home ground.

"Money has been given to the contractor and construction is going to start. The stadium should be ready in 18 months and that should be your home ground. Once completed, the stadium will come with many training pitches and Kitara should turn one into their home," she added.

Currently, Kitara FC hosts its home games in Masindi, located about 60 kilometers from Hoima. Recognizing this as a significant challenge, the club leadership is working towards acquiring its own pitch.

Among also urged sports enthusiasts to continue nurturing and developing talent while advising young athletes to pursue vocational education alongside their sports careers.

"I always encourage students who are in sports to also concentrate on their studies. If you are not good in academics, then go for a vocational course because you will not play football forever but you will need extra skills to survive," she advised.

In response, Kasozi thanked the Speaker for her leadership in securing the Pamoja bid to host AFCON 2027 and appealed for government support for Kitara's upcoming campaign in the Caf Confederation Cup next week.
